I want to be fully transparent about what happened and where our intentions were coming from. The 25th May “Cancelled” theme and advertisement were never created to mock, target, or reference The Well, or any of the discourse surrounding them. There was absolutely no affiliation or implied connection intended. The redacted venue name in the ad was actually referencing London Brewing Co-op β our home venue β and the concept itself was meant as a tongue-in-cheek commentary on cancel culture and the reclaiming of language and experiences that are often weaponized against queer people and queer spaces.
At its core, the intention was about taking power back, not punching down. It was never about making light of harm, exclusion, or anyoneβs lived experiences. We understand now that the messaging missed the mark for some people, and the moment we realized it was causing hurt or discomfort, we made the decision to immediately remove the advertisement and cancel the theme entirely. That was the right decision.
Queeraoke has always been built from a place of love, community, and care. We are entirely independent and community-led. We are simply queer people trying to create spaces where others can show up exactly as they are, feel welcomed, make connections, and experience joy without fear of judgment.
Creating a genuinely safe, inclusive, and affirming environment is not a branding exercise for us β it is the entire reason Queeraoke exists. We know that safety is built through accountability, listening, and trust, and we are committed to continuing to learn and grow when concerns are brought forward.
Every person who walks into our space deserves to feel respected, valued, celebrated, and safe. That commitment is unwavering. We care deeply about this community and never want anyone to feel alienated, mocked, or unwelcome by something associated with our events.
Thank you to everyone who reached out and shared their feelings and concerns. We are listening with open hearts, and our goal will always be to foster a space rooted in inclusivity, support, connection, and queer joy.
